Valentine Pet Tips

Will you be my Valentine? It’s a daily question for most of our pets. Lucky for us they aren’t bashful when it comes to showing their affection.

Spay You Love Me

A pair of breeding cats can have two or more litters per year. Over a seven-year period, they can produce over 420,000 unwanted offspring.  Shelters and animal control agencies across the U.S. are forced to kill millions of cats each year, and millions of dollars in tax revenues are spent on cat-related expenses alone.

To help with this problem, local shelters and veterinarians join together one day a year -Spay Day- to offer free or discounted spays and neuters. This year, Spay Day will be held on Februray 23rd. To celebrate, The N.O.A.H. Center in Stanwood is offering a free spay/neuter for any family cat. To schedule an appointment call 360-629-7055. To see a list of other Spay Day participants check out www.paws.org.
Spay or neuter your pet before it reaches reproductive maturity. Your veterinarian will know the best age to perform this procedure to keep your pet safe and prevent an unwanted pregnancy.

Free Spay/Neuter Surgeries For Pit Bulls!

The Seattle Humane Society and PetSmart Charities are joining forces to provide FREE spay and neuter surgeries to pit bulls and pit bull mixes in King County. The dogs will also receive free vaccinations, and microchips will be available for $5.
If you have an unaltered pit bull, or know someone who does, call the Seattle Humane Society today to make an appointment (425) 649-7560.

Curious Critters
Invisible Fence® Brand indoor solutions create “off limits” areas for your cats and dogs. Holidays are popular occasions for our customers to use portable indoor solutions which can temporarily or permanently protect a flower arrangement, holiday display, or prevent access to a room or even a single piece of furniture.

Be My BFF
Many of us wish “BFF” (acronym for Best Friends Forever) meant we’d never have to say goodbye to our pets. When a loss occurs, it’s only natural to take some time before adding a new companion to our family. A transition of loss turns to a transition of learning about a new individual and how they will enrich our life. If you are looking to add a new companion this year, why not take a look on www.petfinder.com . All local animal shelters upload photos and descriptions of available adoptable pets to this popular site. Whether you’re seeking a dog, cat, bunny, or snake, you’ll find them on Petfinder.

Hold the Cocoa
Chocolate is toxic to cats and dogs. The degree of toxicity depends on the weight of the animal and the amount and type of chocolate consumed. Semi-sweet and bakers chocolate contain more theobromine than milk chocolate, making them even more toxic. To play it safe, avoid feeding your pet anything containing cocoa or chocolate.  In lesser quantities, chocolate will cause gastro-intestinal problems including diarrhea. In large quantities chocolate can cause coma or even death.
